Secret Benefits of Honey!
Posted on April 18, 2008
Since going organic with my wife, I have looked into many natural and holistic approaches to medicine and relief from annoying symptoms that come along with being sick. I can truly tell a difference in our lives since we have been eating mostly organic foods and feeding our bodies with the proper nutrition. One area that I have not looked into very much is allergy relief. I do not have horrible allergies, but about twice a year my sinuses act up and I use to have to go to the doctor at least once. Since going organic and drinking a fantastic juice made of 19 fruits my problems have basically gone away.
One thing that sparked my interest in allergies again though is something that my wife said about honey and allergy relief. I started thinking abut it and it makes perfect sense (I’m pretty thoughtful and I like things to pass my "common sense" test) why honey would relieve many allergies. Many
of use get sick every year in the spring time when all the trees, flowers, and bushes start to release their load of pollen. It covers our cars and houses and is generally just very annoying. I don’t really know if it is this way across the country (I would assume it is), but here in the South it is really bad for three to four weeks. Just have a look at the picture to the left that was taken by boxercab in Atlanta, GA. We have a black Honda and it was basically covered in yellow pollen for two weeks. The problem with all this pollen is the allergies that people suffer from it. Many people will become really ill during this period and a whole lot of people have minor cases like me.
The Common Sense Approach
Honey is made from bees, which are one of the major pollinators for plants, which is the source of many major allergies, which is in the honey in minuscule amounts because of the bees. Pretty simple to me! By ingesting local raw honey you will basically be giving your self a little shot of pollen. By getting small does of pollen your immune system will fight it off and build up resistance to it. It is just like an immunization for any diseases, but in much smaller doses and through a natural substance. By eating local honey you will be building up your immune system for all the local pollens that will be in the air. If I suffered from allergies really bad I know I would certainly give it a try. A natural solution is always better than medicine in my book. One thing that would also be worth trying is to purchase local honey from an area that you were going to travel too. Let’s say your from Ohio and are going to Disney in Orlando, FL. Go online and find some local raw honey that was made from bees in Orlando. You might can even find local honey that was made during the season that you are going to be there.
