The missing link to success!
Posted on December 15, 2007

In this new world that I have joined, the blogosphere, there are many interesting and fun ways to interact. One of them is being “tagged” by a fellow blogger to participate in series of articles or post. I have participated in a couple so far:
- The Think Different Challenge – Wake up and go to work, Think Differently Today!
- 7 Random Things That You May Not Know About Me – My 7.
I recently was tagged by Chris, at soupornuts, to participate in another one, the “Creating Better Habits Challenge”. The challenge was started by Daylle Deanna Schwartz and is open to all that want to participate, just check her article out and read the rules. In Daylle’s words the “Creating Better Habits Challenge” is…
…to identify behavior that can be replaced by a better habit. Since I consider almost all behavior a habit, it can be related to anything that can make a positive difference in your life—a new habit for thinking about specific situations, responding to things that bother you, how to say “no,” letting go of clutter, improving health or fitness, losing weight, dealing with a parent, coping with loss, having better relationships, becoming better at a skill, having a better blog. The topics can be about anything.
My Contribution to the Challenge
In everyone’s journey to become a success there is often a moment in our path that we realize something has been missing. What is it? Who is it? Where is it? Why can I not find it? That something is to me is what I call the “missing link”. Everyone’s “missing link” is different, which is understandable because all of us are different and have varying strengths and weaknesses.
Missing Links
Many missing links can be simple to identify while some may take us years to find and over come. Here are a few that I have heard over and over…
- I don’t have time. You have time for what you truly care about!
- I don’t know how. Learn – read, listen, or get a mentor!
- I’m too old. Age is how you feel and act!
- I’m too young. Again, age is how you feel and act, there are people 15 to 100 years old out there that are greatly successful.
- I can’t get started. Take action!
Take Action!!!
My personal “missing link” was taking action. All my life I have seen people talk about being a success or talk about their dreams of someday doing something, but there was never anything actually done to make those things happen. Almost a year ago I made this realization in my own life as well and from that moment on I have made sure that I “take action”. It is not enough to wish for or think that you are deserving of something, you must take action and make it happen.
I make it a habit now to take action. Where I use to say to my self “I wish I could have…”, “I wish I could do…”, or “I wish I will someday…”, I now say “What can I do to…”. To many people out there this may not be an obstacle or stumbling block to their success, but I have heard it over and over from so many people that want to change their lives yet they take no action. I have personally missed so many opportunities because I was not willing to take action. Even when I knew it was a great opportunity with little risk I never would make the leap and take action.
Multiple Streams of Income
One dream that I have always had is to be financially independent. I have many reasons for wanting to be financially independent, but until a year ago I only talked about it. Now I have taken actions to bring in residual incomes from work that I have done instead of the pay check I receive for my time. I have opened my eyes to the hundreds of opportunities around me and have not limited my self with negative thoughts or doubts. I do not allow anyone to limit my success with negativity or disbelief. I would love to be able to just wish financial independence to myself, but that is not how this universe works.
How to start?
In our universe there is an abundance of everything that we need, it is just a matter of getting our mind, heart, and spirit right to obtain it. Here are the four things that I believe you must do to receive everything you want form this life:
- Ask for, exactly what you want. Take some time and really think about what it is you want out of this universe. Put it down on paper and be specific. You can not just say, “I want a better life”. If you are not specific who knows what you will get. For example if you wrote down, “I want to be rich”. You could get a horrible job working countless hours with a huge salary, but what good would it do you if you had not time to enjoy it.
- Take action! Do not just write something down and expect it to pop out of a cloud of smoke. You must have good intentions about what it is you want and must be willing to do something to make it happen.
- Believe it will happen. After the first two step you must honestly and whole heartedly believe that it will happen. Affirm to yourself everyday that what you wrote down will happen. If you said, “I want to be more out going and a more positive person to allow myself to become a better person.”, then affirm to yourself, “I will be positive today, I will be more out going and friendly to everyone I meet”.
- Accept it has happen. After you get what ever it is you wanted, be appreciative and accept it. Many people do not give thanks for the many blessing they already have which tells the universe that you do not need any more blessings. Make sure you realize what you have and appreciate the new blessings that are moved into your life. One of the most under-appreciated blessings many of us have is our health, don’t over look the simple things in life.

This is an outstanding article, Brad. Your insight and views are incredible. Keep on growing Brother.
Wow Brad, thanks so much for the kind words about my blog! I really value them, since it is exactly what I hoped to accomplish with my blog.
My apologies for the delayed reaction to this post, it’s been kind of a stressed out week at work…
I will definitely look into the Challenge, don’t if I’ll make it this week though!
I’ve added your blog to my reader too, I really enjoy the positive outlook and news it brings!
Thanks again, and my best wishes for a warm, loving and peaceful Christmas to you!
Ellen
p.s. I noticed we share some background: I studied Electrical Engineering too!!
Thanks for participating Brad! I think that taking action is a habit that everyone can benefit from. It’s easier to plan than to implement what you know you have to do. I’m guilty of that! But consciousness does make a big difference!
Great habit!
A Challenge to be more Compassionate…
Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else’s skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy…
[...] 1. Take action! For many people, the missing link to success is the lack of taking action. To be a success you must do something, don’t just think about it. It is not enough to want to be a success or wish to be a success, you must do something about it. If you want to be a star athlete, start working hard than everyone else. If you want to be the best salesman, train, read, attend seminars, do what ever it takes to make it happen! Make taking action a habit and you will always get more done, feel better, and be an amazing SUCCESS! [...]
[...] For me, an accomplishment is just a small stepping stone that leads to greater things. Every time you finish something it just motivates you to push farther ahead and finish something else. Many time management books on the market today mention making list and prioritizing your tasks, but these time management techniques also hold a secret. By making list and finishing the task on them, you give yourself a feeling of accomplishment. Once you start checking items off, you feel that you just have to keep going. Soon all your tasks are complete and you have one of life’s little natural highs of accomplishment. Every item you check off motivates you to proceed to the next, then the next, all the way to the end. It is no wonder that list make us more productive, they motivate us to succeed. List and accomplishing them are one of the secrets to success. When using list you not only become more productive but you make yourself feel better! [...]
